A partner, a security guard, a hunter and simply a merry fellow - all this
is the American Bulldog.
In Russia, this breed is becoming more and more popular because of its
versatility and ability to be trained.
At present there are two types of American Bulldogs - Johnson and
Scott.
In our country, Mr. John D. Johnson is widely known and revered. The Russian
breeders involved with the classical Johnson type, pay attention to the
percentage of Johnson bloodlines in their dogs' pedigree. A high percentage of
Johnson bloodline is a source of pride and a guarantee of quality in puppies.
Unfortunately, the standards of the American Bulldog have been rather vague in
Russia, so different types are shown together in the same
ring. In spite of that, the majority of breeders translate American standards into Russian
and select potential breeding stock accordingly. In Russia, the available
stock of American Bulldogs is already quite large, but many people
get dogs from other countries (mostly the US), aspiring to improve and fix
the desirable type/traits of the American Bulldog.
Thanks to owners' hard work and dedication, American Bulldogs
participate not only in exhibitions, but also in competitions at "The Big
Russian Ring" such as weight pulling and are also used for hunting wild boar. |
